Paolo Peli

The founder

The Peli family approaches the firearms world after the Great War. The grandfather, Marcello Peli  born, in 1899 worked wood to survive and learnt how to carpentry guns for the small artisans in Gardone Valtrompia. He had 4 male sons, who all became later gunsmiths. One of them was Paolo’s father, Eugenio Peli, a great man; his son learnt everything from him, both from the professional point of view, and in life. He worked in the Beretta factory for 37 years, where he met his wife; from their union the founder Paolo Peli and his siblings Giorgio and Loretta were born. Giorgio has been following his father’s footsteps since he was a child and worked in the same factory, starting as a simple worker and reaching later positions of greater responsibility.

The first challenges

Since he was a child Paolo was so fascinated from firearms that he spent all his days looking at his father and brothers who, after work, went in the downstairs laboratory, converting their passion in few more money for the family. Forced then by need, once the professional school was over, he started working in various not guns related fields that did not permit him to develop his vocation and brought nothing but dissatisfaction. After his working time, Paolo retreated downstairs in the family laboratory where, he learnt step by step everything a gunsmith should know and where he finally could express his passion.

Career

At the age of 18 for Paolo, the big chance finally arrived: he joined a small factory who was also internationally recognized, the FAMARS. The Uncle Mario Peli, who was Mario Abbatico’s friend, worked for several years in Famars and thanks to him, Paolo got an interview. That day he met for the first time Remo Salvinelli and Cristina Abbiatico and immediately accepted the job. After this encounter, Famars has been Paolo’s life for 24 years.

He started collecting small successes. He worked on the Rombo and the Tribute. He also proposed personal and innovative ideas, based on his intuitions, that later revealed to be very useful for the business. Thanks to technology, he learnt to design and project new rifles, such as sidelock over/under with central action. Innovations that will be later reproduced also on the shotgun. But his dream, the one he had since he was a kid, the one that always accompanied him along his life, was still just a dream. Thanks to his great efforts, to his capacities and to the people who believed in him, Paolo Peli eventually managed to realize that dream, on 28th June 2013 with a lot of new projects and a new brand: PMP. Retracing his life in these few lines, Paolo immediately thought to a famous quote who has been a source of inspiration and always guided him, one of his favourites. Steve Jobs during a speech at the Stanford University affirmed: ”You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something, your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart, even when it leads you off the well worn path. The only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.” Today Paolo can affirm that the dots in his life finally connected. All the sacrifices paid off in the end. The road brought him here, where he always wanted to be, doing what he really loves.
